Sixteen region college-bound high school graduates are the recipients of an annual scholarship awarded by DM Airports, Ltd., operators of Morristown Municipal Airport.
In its 10th year, the airport management-sponsored plan awards each student a one-time $1,250 scholarship that may possibly be utilized for tuition, books or other eligible fees associated with college attendance. To date, DM has awarded $176,000 in scholarships under this program.
Airport Executive Director Bill Barkhauer mentioned, “Given this year’s continuing economic challenges, it’s more essential than ever to give back for the students and their families in our community.”
To streamline expenses, the airport decided to forgo the awards breakfast for the second time to be able to maintain the plan intact.
“Awards are depending on the overall achievements and actions with the student. We desire to emphasize that grade point average is only part with the criteria. Excellent grades are important, but so is the student’s involvement in extra-curricular actions within the school and community, in addition to work experience,” Barkhauer said.
Cherry Hill-based Scholarship Managers, a division of Career Opportunities Through Education Inc., administers the program by receiving and evaluating applications and selecting the actual scholarship recipients.
