Eastern Illinois University’s Booth Library will celebrate National Library one week by hosting a videoconference with author and graphic novelist Neil Gaiman on Monday, according to a press release.

Other activities next week will consist of library tours and community borrower card drives, a book sale, and a number of exhibits related to Gaiman and National Library Week.
The “An Evening with Neil Gaiman” live streaming videoconference is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Booth Library room 4440. Gaiman, honorary chair of National Library Week, will speak about his lifelong love of libraries and also the role they play in a democratic society by supporting intellectual freedom and privacy.
Gaiman won the 2009 Newbery Medal for his “The Graveyard Book” for middle-grade readers and he also authored “Coraline” for this age group. Gaiman has also written “Stardust” and a number of other publications, as well as the acclaimed “The Sandman” series and many other graphic novels.
The American Library Association’s Campaign for America’s Libraries and the Jessamine County Public Library in Kentucky are coordinating the video conference, in collaboration with HarperCollins Children’s Books, Internet2 and the University of Minnesota.
From 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday and Wednesday, Booth Library personnel will provide tours of the building for neighborhood residents and hold a community borrower card drive. Tours will start in the Marvin Foyer.
Booth’s annual book sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday outside the library’s north entrance. A big selection of books in all subject areas and hundreds of paperback fiction titles is going to be obtainable. Proceeds from the sale of these items, donated by the campus neighborhood, and is going to be used to improve library programs and services.
Associated exhibits that will be displayed at Booth during April consist of “The Background of Illinois Libraries” in the atrium, “Transforming K-12 Students These days into College Students Tomorrow” in the periodicals hallway, “Community Authors” in the south lobby, and “Neil Gaiman, Honorary Chair of National Library Week 2010” within the Marvin Foyer.
