Cardiff University Research Institute for Sustainable Places is a new initiative and is funded by the University to continue developing its international reputation in the field of sustainability science and embed Cardiff at the centre of interdisciplinary sustainability research. You will be part of a large interdisciplinary research team, collectively working on a range of research activities. The work of the Institute concerns the creation of a unique research hub on sustainable places research and is split over 6 work packages: (i) Transitions and adaptations in selected city-rural regions, (ii) Security, risk and resilient places, (iii) Resilience and adaptation in coupled physical, ecological and social systems, (iv) Health and connected communities, (v) Adaptive governance for social and ecological transitions, and (vi) Adaptations around mobilities, flows and migration.

You will be responsible for both participating in the development of the research hub and in carrying out and developing further the research programmed ‘Security, risk and resilient places’. You will have a strong research background in the analysis of environmental and/or technological hazards and risk, and the application of such concepts to understanding sustainable socio-technical and environmental systems. An understanding of how risk thinking, alongside its assessment and communication, is being used within contemporary environmental policy-making would be a further advantage for this post.

Applications are encouraged from a variety of disciplines across the social, natural and physical sciences. For more information please visit this site.
