It was a phone call no one at Loras College ever expected to receive, particularly within the current tough economic times. The parents of a newly accepted Loras student called the college lately to decline the $14,000 academic-merit scholarship their son was awarded for his outstanding grade-point average and test scores.
To the best of anyone’s know-how at Loras, in no way prior to has a student declined a scholarship and still attended the college.
The parents, who wish to stay anonymous, stated they wanted the generous scholarship to be used so students with a higher require than their son might also be able to attend Loras.
“This extraordinary act of generosity to support those with less is exactly what Loras University strives to exemplify,” Loras President Jim Collins stated in a press release.
The scholarship is going to be distributed to students with financial need.
“We are honored and humbled by this selfless gift and will ensure that the cash is wisely apportioned to any number of deserving students with financial require,” Collins stated.
This past academic year, a lot more than 95 percent of Loras college students received merit and/or need-based financial assistance.
Meanwhile, the anonymous student will start classes at Loras this fall with no financial aid from the college.
